Rachael Torcasio is a warm, compassionate + non-judgemental Registered Psychologist. She enjoys working with adults across a wide range of areas, to meet their therapeutic goals + needs. Her special interest is in helping people develop a deeper understanding of how their early experiences; trauma, abuse, neglect + unmet needs have had a role in shaping their personality, beliefs, values, emotions, behaviours + coping styles. She works collaboratively with you to explore how these things have impacted your relationships (with yourself + others), day-to-day life,+ to build your capacity to cope + have an overall improved quality of life.
Rachael also works with people experiencing grief + loss, social + home life stressors, anxiety and depression.
She is non-traditional relationship and LGBTQIA+ friendly 🏳🌈
Rachael does not provide couples or family counselling and is no longer accepting new child or adolescent referrals.
Therapeutic Approaches
Rachael uses a range of different evidence based therapeutic approaches, based on your individual need. Some of the most common forms of therapy are listed below.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A common form of therapy where negative thinking patterns + unhelpful beliefs about yourself + the world are identified, explored + challenged, in order to support the development or more adaptive behavioural patterns in line with your goals.
Schema Therapy
Allows you to gain a deeper understanding of your underlying beliefs (schemas), and the origin and impact these have on your personality, relationships and day-to-day life. Changing your underlying beliefs can have a positive and long-lasting impact on your life.
Mindfulness Training
Rachael can teach you the skills to be present + engaged in the moment, to support you to acknowledge + accept your thoughts, feelings + bodily sensations without distraction or judgement, in order to build your tolerance regulation skills.
Somatic Experiencing
Learn how to regulate your bodily sensations to alleviate and manage the symptoms of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) + other traumatic events. Thereby improving your overall sense of safety, ability engage in therapy, + your day to day life.
Trauma Informed
Trauma informed practise recognises that trauma comes in many shapes + sizes, can occur throughout different periods in our lives, + has a wide-ranging impact on our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, behaviours, + the way we relate to others + the world.
Developmental Psychology
Takes into consideration how our cognitive, motivational, psychological, physiological and social engagement + functioning change throughout our lifespan + the associated impact these changes have on our lives.
